Major Programs of the Shaker Heights Youth Center include:
Intensive Prevention Program (IPP)
Services suspended students, grades K-12, in Shaker Heights schools through a morning tutoring program designed to keep students current with assigned classroom work and an afternoon life skills group.
Academic Success Aid Program (ASAP) - School Year
Provides daily academic support to expelled students as well as teaching positive social skills through life skills groups and community engagement through sevice learning.
Academic Success Aid Program (ASAP) - Summer
Services students in grades K-4 with six weeks of all day programming focusing on academic enrichment in core subject areas.
MyCom South Shaker
South Shaker was named one of eight MyCom (My Commitment, My Community) neighborhoods by the Cleveland Foundation in 2008. MyCom provides youth development programming, supporting adolescents in Employment and Career Development, College Access, Community Access and a wide variety of Arts.
The Shaker Heights Youth Center serves as fiscal agent and staffs the project.
School Based Student Assistance Program (SAP)
Youth Center staff provide in-school problem identification and referral and support Middle and High School students who are experienceing academic, emotional and/or social problems.
Youth Mentoring Program
The Mentoring Program matches students with adult or peer mentors to provide academic support, as well as help students to develop and enhance positive social skills.
The Youth Center supports the Open Doors Mentoring Program at First Unitarian Church.
Youth Leadership Shaker Heights
Youth Leadership, open to grades 7-12, is designed to enhance the student's assets and competencies, as well as motivate youth to see themselves as valuable leaders and contributors to their community.
